Stopgap Education

stopgap provides a specialist service aimed at 16 to 24 year olds with Asperger Syndrome (AS) or other social and communication difficulties. They may also have associated emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD). Most of their learners have additional needs such as mental health problems, attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD), attention deficit disorder (ADD), dyslexia and specific learning difficulties.

They offer an environment where learners can further develop their abilities and gain new life and key skills, by offering a tailored and individual vocational programme.

Their aim is to equip young people with the skills and coping strategies necessary for them to progress into and sustain employment, training or further education. They achieve this by working collaboratively with the young person and their parents or carers, key agencies such as colleges, social services, voluntary sector and local employers.

stopgap currently runs this service in Watford and Stevenage.

We have visited this service and spent time at the Stevenage site, the project leader was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We feel it is an extremely valuable service for young people.
